The Saudi Building Code National Committee announced implementing the last and fifth phase of Saudi Building Code, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The code in the last phase includes all types of buildings classified therein, in addition to what was applied in the previous four phases, such as warehouses of all kinds, open and closed parking lots, and auto repair workshops.

The committee indicated that the first phase comprised administrative government buildings, tall buildings (towers of more than 23 meters), hospitals and hotels. Meanwhile, the second phase included buildings of gatherings (mosques and sports facilities), educational buildings, malls, communication towers, as well as industrial buildings and facilities, in addition to the buildings that are not less than 23 meters and high-risk buildings.

As for the third phase, it comprised buildings of gatherings (wedding halls, cinemas, and theaters), health care centers, furnished hotel apartments, hostels, residential buildings and recreational service buildings. The fourth phase consists of business buildings (airports, banks, television stations, and post offices).

The committee indicated that it issued 23 editions, which included most aspects of building and construction, while taking into account the various climatic and geographical conditions in the Kingdom.

The committee added that it follows up with and updates the code according to changes and developments in the field of building and construction every five years.
