Saudi Arabia will regionally lead in clean energy production: Minister

Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy

Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy, said that the world is transforming to become more sustainable, with Saudi Arabia poised to regionally lead in terms of shifting to clean energy production and a circular carbon economy.

Focus is mainly directed towards the mining and energy sectors in this regard, the minister pointed out on the sidelines of the World Mining Congress 2023 in Riyadh.

The sustainable development of minerals requires clean energy and equivalent usage with highly-efficient production.

The Kingdom, in addition to the green hydrogen, has alternative sources of energy, clean renewable energy, programs of the peaceful uses of nuclear technology and the world’s most promising solar and wind energy projects, the minister indicated.

He noted that the Kingdom utilizes clean energy to manage greenhouse gases, adding that any power plant will be enabled to retain carbon in addition to green energy investments.

These promising projects as well as programs will render the Kingdom a clean energy hub, considering the reduction of carbon emissions. This is besides empowering companies to achieve sustainability, develop their supply chains especially in the mining and metals sector, and benefit from this in the petrochemicals industry.

“The World Mining Congress will enable the Kingdom, as an oil and gas giant, to become a world leader in the field of clean energy, including green hydrogen, complementing its total output in this respect,” he noted.
