POS weekly transactions hit SAR 12.7 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 12.7 billion in the week ended April 1, compared to almost SAR 11.04 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 150.21 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors reported a strong performance last week, except for restaurants and cafes, food and beverages (F&B) and construction materials that fell 0.2%, 4% and 6%, respectively.

 

Clothes and footwear led the rising sectors, increasing by 80% week-on-week (WoW), followed by telecommunications (51%) and jewelry (33%).

 

During the week, consumer spending focused on F&B at nearly SAR 2.11 billion, followed by miscellaneous goods and services at SAR 1.32 billion:

Among the Kingdom’s cities, Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.99 billion, or 31% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.8 billion, as indicated below:
