Saudi Industrial Development Co. (SIDC) announced that a decision was issued by the GCC Standing Committee for Combating Harmful Practices in International Trade to initiate investigation procedures on the anti-dumping complaint filed against imports of sanitaryware sets from China and India.

In a statement to Tadawul, the company pointed out that on Nov. 28, 2022, SIDC, jointly with other companies, filed an anti-dumping complaint against porcelain sanitary sets imported from the People's Republic of China and the Republic of India.

The imports are categorized under Customs codes 69109000-69101000 of the unified customs tariff of the GCC countries.

The complaint aims to protect the Kingdom’s sanitaryware industry threatened by the Chinese and Indian imports’ unreasonable drop in prices, which affected the company's market share and thus decreased SIDC’s production capacity and increased production cost amid lower sales.

This contributed to the slowdown in the company's business growth and its contribution to the national economy, the statement noted.

The company followed up and participated in all stages of investigation in cooperation with the relevant authorities, to ensure temporary anti-dumping duties would be applied as soon as possible, with an aim to reduce the damage caused to companies manufacturing sanitary sets, until final anti-dumping duties are imposed on the said imports.

The manufacturer indicated that it is not possible at the current time to determine the financial impact, but imposing anti-dumping fees will contribute to providing a fair competitive environment in line with international trade laws. This, in turn, will improve the company's results in general, SIDC said, adding that there are no legal consequences or risks, or material organizational or operational implications that may arise from the lawsuit.

The Technical Secretariat Office circular announcement date is the investigation start date, in accordance with Article 9 of the executive regulations of the GCC Unified (amended) Anti-Dumping, Countervailing and Preventive Measures Act.
