Maaden to develop phosphogypsum recycling plant in Ras Al Khair

Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) headquarters

Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) signed a framework agreement with METSO and Thyssenkrupp Uhde for the development and licensing of a phosphogypsum processing plant in Ras Al Khair.

In a statement, Maaden said the plant will use CO2 capture technologies with lime produced from the calcination.

The process will lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions across Maaden’s phosphate business, making it more sustainable in the long term.

Maaden’s patented concept will allow the company to use new technology to reduce carbon emissions and recycle phosphogypsum into a useful resource.
