Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) has bought 540,000 tons of barley in a tender, the sixth one issued by the Kingdom’s state grain buyer this year, according to a statement carried on the Saudi Press Agency on Monday.

The barley is for arrival in November and December. The offered origins were the European Union, Australia, North and South America and the Black Sea at the seller’s option.

The cargo will be delivered in nine individual consignments of 60,000 tonnes each. Six consignments (360,000 tonnes) are to be delivered to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea ports, and the other three (180,000 tonnes) to the Kingdom's Arabian Gulf ports.

As many as 27 international companies specialized in grain trade were invited to participate in the tender, of which 19 companies competed, SAGO governor Ahmed Al Fares said.

SAGO has now awarded tenders for a total of 6.6 million tonnes of barley this year, he added.
