Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz Airport to start trial run in May: GACA

The Jeddah-based King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) will begin pilot operations next May, the official news agency SPA reported, citing a General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) official.

 

Work is ongoing at the project as scheduled, the official told Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, governor of Makkah in a meeting.

 

The aviation sector regulator GACA will tender the airport soon, he added.

 

In April 2017, GACA awarded a 20-year contract to a consortium led by Changi Airports International (CAI) to operate KAIA, Argaam earlier reported.

 

Last week, the consortium received a notice from Saudi Arabia’s aviation authority terminating its agreement to operate and manage the airport.
