Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz Airport to start trial run May-end: report

Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is scheduled to start pilot operations by May end (mid-Ramadan), Al-Madina newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources.

 

The airport’s trial run was originally slated for May 16, 2018; however, the delay was attributed to conducting more tests to ensure compliance with safety specifications.

  

Going forward, the airport’s capacity is forecast to reach 100 million passengers annually.

 

In February, a consortium of Changi Airports International (CAI) and Saudi Naval Support Company said it received a notice from Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) terminating the agreement to operate and manage Jeddah’s new KAIA.

 

However, GACA said the move is unlikely to impact KAIA’s launch and trial operations.
