Profile: Meet Ghassan Al-Shibl, Chairman of Saudi Local Content and Government Procurement Commission

Ghassan Al-Shibl was appointed by Saudi King Salman on Thursday, Dec. 27, as the new chairman of the board of directors of the Local Content and Government Procurement Commission.

 

The new authority was set up by King Salman, and its board members will be appointed later on under another royal decree.

 

Al-Shibl obtained B.S.c in Civil Engineering from King Saud University, Excellent with Honour degree, 1982. He also earned M.S. in Engineering Management George Washington University, USA in 1986 with a GPA 4 out of 4 and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Management George Washington University, USA in 1990.

 

Al-Shibl began his career as a Teaching Assistant at the university (1982 - 1983). He also served as the director of the follow-up department, General Administration of Projects, Ministry of Interior (1983 - 1990).

 

He is the founder of the Boroz Advanced Technology. Al-Shibl also joined Advanced Electronics Company (AEC) in 1990 as vice president, chief operating officer, then became executive vice president in 1994.

 

He also served as AEC's chief executive officer.  

 

Al-Shibl was awarded for scientific excellence by His Royal Highness Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, in the United States of America, 1990.

 

He earned a diploma in Manufacturing Management from (IMD) Institute, Switzerland, 1991 and a diploma in Japanese Technology Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1992.

 

He also earned certificate in Advanced Management Program, Harvard University, 1996.

 

Al-Shibl has been chairman of Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) since June 2018. Al-Shibl has been Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director at SRMG since February 2017.

 

Al-Shibl has been Chairman of the Board at Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation since January 2017. He has been a board member for several organizations, most notably the Advisory Board for Economic Affairs at the Supreme Economic Council.
