Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB) was originally established in 1978 as a Saudi joint-stock company under the name of The Saudi British Bank (SABB), with capital of SAR 100 million. It officially commenced operations that same year after acquiring the business of the British Bank of the Middle East in Saudi Arabia. The bank was listed on TASI the following year.
