G20 Wrap-Up: Prince Mohammed discusses key topics with global leaders

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman arrived on June 27 in Osaka, Japan to attend the two-day G20 summit, which aims at focusing on trade, energy, empowerment, equality and environmental concerns. There, the Crown Prince held several meetings with leaders of various global powers to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments on the sidelines of the event.

He also discussed the Kingdom’s alliances in energy, security, and plans to boost tourism.

Argaam has outlined a list of Prince Mohammed’s key meetings at the G20:

India

The Crown Prince met the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to review bilateral relations between the two countries as well as discussed a number of topics, including trade and investment, energy, security and countering terrorism. The meeting also resulted in Saudi Arabia increasing India’s Hajj quota to 200,000, which begins in early August this year.

United States

US President Donald Trump met Prince Mohammed to discuss the pivotal role of Saudi Arabia in supporting international stability, security and peace. Both the leaders talked about increasing cooperation in the fields of education, energy and technology; jointly enhancing military and security partnership; and strengthen partnership in the fight against terrorism and terror financing.

Russia

The Crown Prince met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday to highlight the bilateral developments in the past few years in all fields, especially political, economic, and military and security. During the meeting, both the leaders discussed the areas of joint coordination, especially regarding trade and investment, and stressed the importance of continued cooperation in the oil field. Both the leaders have also agreed to extend OPEC+ oil cuts starting in July, contributing to the balance of oil markets.

UK

British Prime Minister Theresa May met with Prince Mohammed on Saturday morning to discuss the latest developments in the region and the efforts being exerted towards them. This G20 is being termed as May’s final global summit before she steps down in July.

Egypt

Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi met with Prince Mohammed on Saturday to discuss the relations between the two countries, in addition to the latest developments on the regional and international arenas, and their positions towards them.

Singapore

The Crown Prince met Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong and discussed ways to elevate bilateral relations and deepen cooperation across a range of issues. PM Lee also raised the annual Hajj pilgrimage quota issue for Singaporean Muslims following Prince Mohammed’s briefing on Saudi Arabia’s drive to boost tourism.

Netherlands

Prince Mohammed met with Queen Maxima of the Netherlands on Friday to discuss areas of cooperation, including women empowerment, between the Kingdom and the Netherlands as well as the means of enhancing them in various fields.

Indonesia

Indonesian President Joko Widodo met Prince Mohammed yesterday afternoon to discuss the establishment of a high-level consultation board for both countries; cooperation between state energy firms PT Pertamina and Saudi Aramco; and also ways to participate in pushing Saudi Vision 2030 forward.

South Africa

The Crown Prince met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka on Saturday morning. They discussed ways to increase Saudi investments in South Africa, in addition to cooperation in the field of military manufacturing.

Argentina

President of Argentina Mauricio Macri met with Prince Mohammed on the sidelines of the G20 summit to discuss prospects of cooperation between the Kingdom and Argentina and means of developing relations to serve the interests of both countries and the people.

Brazil

Brazilian President Javier Paulsonaro met with the Crown Prince during the G20 summit to discuss cooperation between the two countries and the importance of developing them in all fields. Paulsonaro stressed on investment opportunities in Brazil as the country looks forward to taking a much more balanced position in the Middle East.

Japan

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with the Crown Prince on the last day of the G20 summit. The two congratulated each other on the successful conclusion of the summit, and reaffirmed their continued cooperation towards the next G20 summit to be hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2020.

World Bank

Prince Mohammed met with President of the World Bank Group David Malpass on Saturday on the sidelines of the summit. During the meeting, they discussed areas of cooperation with the bank, in addition to the Kingdom's preparations for hosting the upcoming G20 summit in 2020, as well as Saudi Arabia’s support for the projects being carried out by the bank in most needed countries.
