21/09/2019 Argaam

Saudi Arabia has won membership to the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency for a period of two years, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The win reflects the global community’s admiration of the Kingdom’s efforts in atomic security and the peaceful use of atomic energy, said Khaled bin Saleh Al-Sultan, President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy.

It also comes in recognition of the Kingdom’s National Project for Atomic Energy as a strategic choice to sustain diverse and balanced energy sources in the medium-and-long-run, in order to meet the growing local demand for energy, he added.

According to data compiled by Argaam, the board is responsible for making most of the policy of the IAEA. It makes recommendations to the general conference on IAEA activities and budget.
