Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman issued new directives on the development of main routes and ring roads in Riyadh to upgrade the city’s transportation system, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The project aims to transform the capital into a major hub and provider of sustainable transportation and logistics services in the Middle East.
It also seeks to develop junctions between Riyadh’s ring roads and main routes. It will develop 400 kilometers of road network, add new roads and upgrade existing junctions.
Under the new program, the first ring road length will be extended by 80 kilometers, with the completion of the second 73-kilometer long ring road.
The main junctions of King Fahd Road will be developed with a total length of 30 kilometers to boost its capacity.
In addition, the capacity of the Imam Saud bin Faisal Road will be increased from King Khalid Road to its junction with the second eastern ring road, with a length of 23 km.
The Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz first road and its extension to the south will be improved, reaching its meeting point with the second southern ring road, with a length of 45 km.
Riyadh will also develop the extension of the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road to the south from Makkah Road to the Eastern Ring Road, and its extension south to the Dhahran Street to the Southern Ring Road with a length of 17 km.
The Othman Bin Affan Road will be also developed from King Salman Road to Al-Urouba Road, and from Makkah Road to the Southern Ring Road with a length of 16 km.
