The fifth phase of Saudi Arabia's inclusion in FTSE Russell Emerging Market Index starts today, March 23, 2020, based on closing prices of March 19, 2020.
The fifth phase has been divided into 2 tranches; the first will be with an inclusion factor of 25%, while the second will be effective in June 2020 with an inclusion factor of 75%.
The first tranche of inclusion began on March 18, 2019, while the second tranche was on May 1, 2019. The third tranche inclusion took place on June 24, 2019, followed by the fourth tranche on Sept. 23, 2019.
Saudi Arabia is estimated to have an index weight of 0.25% in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series, and 2.7% in the FTSE Emerging All Cap Index.
In August, Tadawul completed the second and final phase of joining the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, raising its weight on the closely-monitored index to 2.8%.
Additionally, the first tranche of Saudi Arabia’s inclusion in the S&P DJI Emerging Markets index began in March, with the second phase completed in September 2019.

On March 19, 2020, Tadawul witnessed active closing coinciding with the entry of foreign funds affiliated with the FTSE Index. A total of 88.6 million shares were traded at a total value of SAR 2.2 billion in 10,900 transactions.
