Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mohammed Saleh bin Taher Benten, urged Muslims around the world to delay plans for the pilgrimage until there is more clarity about the coronavirus fallout.
“The Kingdom is completely ready to serve Muslims performing Hajj and Umrah. We are committed to ensure their safety,” Benten told Al-Ekhbariya TV.
He further noted that visa fees have been refunded to all pilgrims who were unable to travel to the Kingdom due to the suspension of Umrah.

Saudi Arabia suspended, on February 27, Umrah until further notice and halted all international flights due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The minister mentioned that Saudi Arabia is currently providing care to 1,200 pilgrims who could not return to their countries due to the suspension of international flights.
He further explained that a number of coronavirus affected persons and other suspected cases have been quarantined in 5-star hotels across Makkah, in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
