Saudi Arabia to host F1 for first time in November 2021

The Ministry of Sports, in cooperation with the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), announced that it will host the Formula 1 grand prix in Jeddah for the first time in November 2021, with direct support from HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The move is part of a 15-year partnership between SAMF and Formula 1.It comes after a series of breakthroughs in hosting several international sports events, backed by the great support offered by the Crown Prince for the sports sector, and in light of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

The event aims to boost the Kingdom’s position regionally and globally, as well as its ability to organize these international events and create a dynamic society as per the highest lifestyle standards.

Announcing the race in a ceremony on the Jeddah waterfront, Minister of Sports Prince Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said that the high-profile event reflects the Kingdom’s keenness to encourage investments in the sports sector that witnesses remarkable growth year after year.

"We realize that the Saudi citizens are always keen to at the heart of the major sports events, especially as this is the first opportunity for the Kingdom to host the Formula 1. Through the hosting, we seek to highlight the ability of our young people to organize the major international events in the best way for the whole world,” the minister said.

F1 chairman Chase Carey said that Saudi Arabia is a country that is rapidly becoming a hub for sports and entertainment with many major events taking place there in recent years. “We are very pleased that Formula One will be racing there from next season," he noted.

"The region is hugely important to us and with 70% of the population of Saudi being under 30 we are excited about the potential to reach new fans and bring our existing fans around the world exciting racing from an incredible and historic location," Carey added.
