The Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) is studying and evaluating four COVID-19 vaccines, which will be announced when approved, spokesperson Tayseer Al-Mafraj said during a press conference.

Vaccine files are received by SFDA, and clinical trials are conducted ahead of direct communication with the possible manufacturers of the vaccines to facilitate all obstacles and arrange application measures. SFDA held several meetings with experts and scientists to study the available data.

Final reports are conducted, and notes – if any - are sent to vaccine manufacturers after studying the efficacy and safety of the vaccines, inspecting factories and analyzing the drug errors of the new molecule.

On Feb. 18, the drug regulator authorized the use of the British AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine, developed in cooperation with the University of Oxford, Argaam reported.

It also approved the registration of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020
