The point-of-sale (POS) transactions grew by 31% to SAR 37.27 billion in January 2021, from SAR 28.53 billion in the same period last year, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
A total of 356 million transactions were processed through 739,500 points of sale in the same month.
POS transactions represent consumers spent using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Cash withdrawals declined 17% to SAR 51.96 billion in January 2021, from SAR 62.94 billion last year.
The withdrawals were processed through 17,400 ATMs and through 147 million transactions.
