Saudi banks’ aggregate assets exceeded SAR 3 trillion for the first time, to reach SAR 3.008 trillion by the end of February 2021.

In October 2007, the assets of Saudi banks surpassed the SAR 1 trillion-mark for the first time and breached past SAR 2 trillion in March 2014.

Private sector liabilities account for the largest share of bank assets, at 61%, followed by government and semi-government liabilities by 17%, and foreign assets by 9%.

During February, Saudi bank assets accounted for 115% of the total GDP of SAR 2.625 trillion, reaching an all-time high.

The Saudi banks’ assets exceeded the Kingdom’s GDP for the first time by the end of 2020, reaching 113.5%, as the following table shows:
