Prices of 142 Saudi commodities rise in March 2021

Prices of 24 goods and services in Saudi Arabia decreased year-on-year (YoY) in March 2021, while prices of 142 out of 166 commodities rose, official data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

Starting from July 2020, Saudi Arabia began implementing a 15% value-added tax (VAT).

Local frozen chicken recorded the biggest rise by 18.18% YoY. It was followed by yogurt with a 17.31% increase YoY.

On the other hand, Chinese garlic and local cucumber saw the steepest decline at 28.98% and 21.60% YoY, respectively.

Meanwhile, prices of all construction materials increased YoY in March.

Similarly, prices of all 11 fodder and livestock products jumped YoY.

For clothes, all items under this category saw an increase.

Three out four personal services and commodities saw a YoY rise in March.

Prices of all four detergents increased last month, compared to the same period last year.

Elsewhere, prices of two out of three healthcare services were up in the same period.

Likewise, prices of both services under the maintenance and repair of personal means of transportation grew in March YoY.

Price of apartment services rose on an annual basis in March, while hotel-services prices retreated during the same period.

Under tobacco category, prices of Marlboro cigarettes rose by 8.40% YoY per pack in March.
