Prices of 137 Saudi commodities rise in April 2021

Prices of 29 goods and services in Saudi Arabia decreased year-on-year (YoY) in April 2021, while prices of 137 out of 166 commodities rose, official data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

Starting from July 2020, Saudi Arabia began implementing a 15% value-added tax (VAT).

Out of the 91 food products, yogurt recorded the biggest rise by 17.31% YoY. It was followed by local cantaloupe with a 17.27% increase YoY.

On the other hand, local round onions and Indian cardamom saw the steepest decline YoY at 34.55% and 32.89%, respectively.

Meanwhile, prices of all construction materials increased YoY in April.

Prices of all 11 fodder and livestock products increased in April on a YoY basis.

For clothes, all items under this category saw an increase.

Three out four personal services saw a YoY rise in April.

Prices of all four detergents increased last month when compared to the same period previous year.

Elsewhere, prices of two out of three healthcare services were up in the same period.

Similarly, prices of both services under the maintenance and repair of personal means of transportation grew in April YoY.

Price of both hotel-and-apartment services rose on an annual basis in April.

Under tobacco, prices of Marlboro cigarettes grew by 8.19% per pack YoY.
