Basic Chemical Industries Co. (BCI) announced that its chlorine derivatives plant in Jubail Industrial City is 78% complete, expecting it to be complete by the end of November 2021 instead of June.

The project is behind schedule, due to a delay in finalizing the engineering and technical designs on COVID-19 pandemic, BCI said in a bourse filing.

Moreover, the project construction costs increased to SAR 750 million from SAR 685 million, on the addition of some necessary facilities and high construction costs, amid changes in some measurements and engineering details.

The project will operate with a production capacity of 70,000 tons in the first phase at an estimated cost of SAR 520 million, Argaam reported.

In October 2017, BCI signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Nasser Saeed Al Hajri & Partners Contracting Co. for the construction of its chlorine derivatives plant at a total cost of SAR 290.4 million.
