The International Energy Agency (IEA) expects the pressures on global oil markets that pushed prices to their highest levels in seven years will begin to ease, as production recovers in the United States.
In its monthly report, the agency said high oil prices may decline soon, with the US leading a recovery in global supply.
The Paris-based agency left its forecast for oil demand growth unchanged from last month, at 5.5 million barrels per day in 2021 and 3.4 million barrels per day in 2022.
The demand for oil is increasing causing strong consumption of gasoline, the report said, while noting the increase in international travel as more countries reopen their borders.
On the supply side, the agency expects an increase of 1.5 million barrels per day in global oil production during the last three months of the year. The US is expected to account for 400,000 barrels per day of this growth.
