OPEC+, which comprises OPEC and its allies, sees that the impact from the Omicron variant on demand for oil has not been evident thus far, Reuters reported.

An OPEC+ internal document seen by Reuters said that susceptibility and the severity of the symptoms of the new variant of COVID-19 virus are not clear yet.

OPEC began a two-day meeting today, with the allies from outside the alliance scheduled to join the meeting on Thursday, to take a decision with respect the oil output policy for January and whether the alliance will commit to the plan of raising supplies by 400,000 barrels per day (bpd).

"Generally, the impact of Omicron seems to be jet-fuel related for now, particularly in Africa and Europe," the report said, as many countries barred travellers from southern Africa and some European states imposed new coronavirus restrictions.
