The Idle Lands Program started the application of the second phase of idle land tax in Riyadh, urging landlords to register their land online within six months.

Saudi Minister of Housing Majed Al Hogail said that the second phase implementation will provide more developed residential land, to achieve balance between supply and demand, and help Saudi households own their first homes.

The Idle Lands Law came into effect on June 8, 2016, Argaam reported.

In April 2021, the Saudi Cabinet approved amendments to the executive regulations of the idle land tax law. Under these amendments, three phases were approved for the program. The first one focuses on undeveloped land plots with an area of 10,000 square meters (sqm) or more; the second phase includes developed lands plots with an area of 10,000 sqm or more, and those developed for one owner with an area of 10,000 sqm or more in one scheme; the third phase is related to the developed land plots with an area of 5,000 sqm or more, and those developed for one owner with an area of 10,000 sqm or more in one city within the ministry’s specified scope.
