POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions amounted to SAR 9.64 billion in the week ending April 9, compared to SAR 14.05 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 110.4 million transactions were processed last week.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS transactions during the week, except for hotels that rose 2%.
Education topped the list of decliners, with a 50% fall, followed by food & beverages with 47%, then restaurants & cafes with 45%.
Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.52 billion, representing 16% of POS transactions. It was followed by miscellaneous goods & services sector with SAR 1.02 billion, or 11% of total spending.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 2.93 billion, representing 30% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.53 billion.
