Basic Chemical Industries Co. (BCI) commenced commercial operations at its chlorine plant, which will produce caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, chlorine and sodium hypochlorite at PlasChem Park, Jubail Industrial City, after obtaining the necessary licenses.

There is no change in the previously-expected costs as the project scope has not changed, BCI said in a statement to Tadawul. The planned design capacity of the plant (50,000 tons of chlorine) is expected to be reached within one month from today’s date.

On the other hand, production has been halted at Dammam’s chlorine plant in coincidence with the start of operations at Jubail.

The company is studying the best ways to invest in the old factory that guarantees the maximum interest of the shareholders, the statement concluded.

In 2020, BCI signed a final contract with Nasser Saeed Al Hajri & Partners Contracting Co. for the construction of its chlorine derivatives plant in Jubail Industrial City, Argaam reported.

In July 2021, the Tadawul-listed company said the project construction costs increased to SAR 750 million from SAR 685 million, on the addition of some necessary facilities and high construction costs, amid changes in some measurements and engineering details.
