Saudi merchandise imports rise to SAR 53.9 bln in May; China top exporter at 19%

Saudi Arabia’s merchandise imports rose 22% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 53.9 billion in May 2022, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

Imports for the same month declined YoY by SAR 2.24 billion, or 4%, as shown below:

The increase in the Kingdom’s imports in May was driven by a SAR 2.06 billion rise, or 24%, in "machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment; parts thereof". This is in addition to other sections.

China topped the Kingdom's list of importers, amounting to SAR 10.2 billion, accounting for 19% of the total value of imports in May.

The US and UAE came in second and third, at 10% and 6%, respectively.

The top 10 countries from which imports were made accounted for about 62.3% of the total imports, equivalent to SAR 33.5 billion, as the following table shows:
