The Oil Sustainability Program signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) and National Water Co. (NHC) to enhance strategic cooperation to utilize polymeric materials in the water sector.

In a statement, the Ministry of Energy announced today, Feb. 21, that the areas of cooperation include developing business solutions and joint ventures to improve the quality of water networks through knowledge exchange, work coordination, and in-depth study of water sector promoting initiatives.

The MoU will strive to optimize the use of polymer-based applications in the water sector, setting and executing cooperation initiatives, and increasing localization levels across the Kingdom through local value chain stages in the water sector.

In addition, the agreement supports research and development on polymer-based applications, and knowledge exchange on water projects and future expansion plans.

The Oil Sustainability Program will facilitate and coordinate with the relevant authorities on behalf of the manufacturers and consumers and contribute to spreading awareness and localization within the framework of value chain.

The program will also stimulate the use of polymer-based applications to share experiences and provide technical support. Additionally, it will work on exploring and transferring the world’s best practices for the use of polymeric products in water networks to the Kingdom.

The tripartite cooperation aims to enhance collaboration by sharing standard specifications for raw materials in the manufacture of polymeric pipes and the latest related technologies, as well as sharing challenges in activating the use of polymeric applications. The three parties will also collaborate to adopt technical solutions and promote using polymeric materials in all water networks.

The Oil Sustainability Program was launched in 2020 with the participation of several government agencies, companies and research centers. It aims to sustain and develop the demand for hydrocarbons as a competitive energy source by raising its environmental and economic efficiency.

The program intends to ensure energy transition is carried out effectively and sustainably in the Kingdom.
