POS weekly transactions reach SAR 10.7 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.70 billion in the week ended May 27, compared to almost SAR 10.09 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

Data showed that about 163.45 million transactions were processed during the week.

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors moved up, led by electronics & electric appliances that leapt 41%, followed by clothes & footwear that rose 16%, then hotels and telecommunications (13% each).

During the week, consumer spending was focused on restaurants & cafes with nearly SAR 1.66 billion, followed by F&B (SAR 1.65 billion).

City-wise, Riyadh topped in terms of POS transaction value with almost SAR 3.59 billion, or 34% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.57 billion, as indicated below:
