POS weekly transactions hit SAR 11.7 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached SAR 11.65 billion in the week ended June 17, from SAR 11.69 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

Data showed that 175.69 million transactions were processed last week.  

  

POS transactions represent consumer spending through ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Clothing & Footwear and transportation were the top performers, rising by 5% each. They were followed by public utilities (3%).

On the other hand, electronic and electric appliances was the most affected sector, declining by 21%. Telecommunications and hotels followed, at 8% and 6%, respectively.

Consumer spending focused on the food & beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.71 billion, followed by the restaurants & cafes sector with SAR 1.70 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value, with nearly SAR 3.89 billion, representing 34% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.69 billion.
