POS weekly transactions down to SAR 11.2 bln: SAMA

POS device 


The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached SAR 11.19 billion in the week ended July 8, from SAR 12.12 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

Data showed that 166.49 million transactions were processed last week.  

  

POS transactions represent consumer spending through ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Clothing & footwear and transportation were the worst performers, falling by 42% each. They were followed by recreation and culture (22%) and food and beverages (18%). 

  

On the other hand, education was the best-performing sector, rising by 125%. Construction and building materials followed at 86%. 

  

Consumer spending focused on the restaurants & cafes sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.75 billion, followed by the food & beverages sector with SAR 1.67 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value, with nearly SAR 3.37 billion, representing 30% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.62 billion.
