POS weekly transactions rise to SAR 11B: SAMA

POS device


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 11.04 billion for the week ended Jan. 27, compared to SAR 10.61 billion in the previous week.

Data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that total POS transactions amounted to around 178.01 million for the week.

POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, the telecommunications sector led top performers by 12%, followed by the hotels sector by 8%.

Meanwhile, the education sector headed the declining sectors by 30%, followed by the public utilities and jewelry sectors by 1% each.

Consumer spending was focused on the food and beverage (F&B) sector, totaling SAR 1.78 billion during the week. The restaurants and cafes sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.71 billion, as follows:
