POS weekly transactions rise to SAR 14.3B: SAMA

POS device


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 14.33 billion for the week ended Feb. 3, compared to SAR 11.04 billion in the previous week.

Data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that total POS transactions amounted to around 204.9 million for the week.

POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, the clothing & footwear sector led top performers by 45%, followed by the furniture and telecommunications sectors by 39% each.

Consumer spending was focused on the food and beverage (F&B) sector, totaling SAR 2.46 billion during the week. The restaurants and cafes sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 2.04 billion, as follows:

Riyadh led in terms of POS value during the week with approximately SAR 4.68 billion, representing 32.7% of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.96 billion, as follows:
