OPEC’S Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais said the organization role is crucial in ensuring a fair energy transition, highlighting the need for diversified transition plans and global efforts to make energy universally available.

During a session at Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2024), Al Ghais noted that achieving an inclusive energy transition requires worldwide collaboration to invest in all energy forms. This is vital as some communities lack even basic energy access, according to a statement of the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

He underscored the significance of varied transition strategies, advocating for adaptable approaches based on individual country conditions and needs, Al Arabiya website reported.

Al Ghais mentioned that oil and natural gas could be produced more responsibly with new technologies. The shared objective should focus on emission reduction rather than imposing a single, mandatory path, he added.
