POS device 


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 11.97 billion for the week ended Feb. 17, compared to SAR 11.87 billion in the previous week.

Data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that total POS transactions amounted to around 191.2 million for the week.

POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, the jewelry sector led the increases by 23%. The gas stations and transportation sectors followed with a 5% rise each.

On the other hand, the public utilities sector saw the steepest decline at 21%, followed by education (16%).

 

Consumer spending was focused on the food and beverage (F&B) sector, totaling SAR 1.87 billion during the week. The restaurants and cafes sector trailed with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.8 billion, as follows:

Riyadh led in terms of POS value during the week with approximately SAR 4.05 billion, representing 34% of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.74 billion, as follows:
