The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources has allocated three sites for the establishment of mining complexes in Riyadh and Makkah regions, ministry spokesperson Jarrah bin Mohammed Al-Jarrah said in a statement.
The allocated sites include two complexes in the Riyadh region—the first in Afif governorate spanning over an area of 10.38 square kilometre (sqkm), and the second in Al-Tairi, Ramah governorate, covering an area of 37.88 sqkm.
In the Makkah region, the ministry allocated a site for the establishment of the East Faydhat Al-Maslah mining complex in Taif governorate, on an area of more than 25 sqkm, Al-Jarrah added.
The move will help strengthen the principles of governance in the mining sector, boost its transparency, raise investor confidence, in addition to playing a key role in achieving the elements of sustainability in mining projects, he said.
The spokesperson also highlighted the ministry's interest in preserving the environment, occupational health and safety, and motivating local communities to participate in the growth paths of the mining sector, in accordance with the Mining Investment Law.
Additionally, the allocated sites comes are part of the ministry’s efforts to develop the mining investment environment in the Kingdom and enhance its transparency and attractiveness for investors, the statement added.
