Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser stated that rail transport through modern trains is a fundamental pillar of development and a key driver of the national economy.

This is because it facilitates trade and mining activities; expands sustainable transport options to support the logistics sector and the movement of people and goods; enhances quality of life; promotes environmental sustainability; preserves road infrastructure; and raises traffic safety standards.

In his speech at the opening of the second edition of the Saudi International Rail Exhibition and Conference, Al-Jasser clarified that these efforts come as part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing journey of growth and development, serving as a cornerstone for modern rail transport transformation through infrastructure development, financial efficiency, improved customer experience, and steady progress toward achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, as well as enabling various sectors and supporting economic growth.

The Saudi International Rail Exhibition brought together a range of leaders, specialists, and decision-makers from around the world to exchange visions and ideas, showcasing the latest technological advancements in the railway industry, according to the minister.

Al-Jasser also highlighted that 2024 witnessed a major milestone in Saudi Arabia’s railway sector with the launch of the Riyadh Metro as part of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project, which has already surpassed 100 million passengers since its inauguration in Q3 2025.

He noted that the Riyadh metro network is deemed one of the largest urban rail transport systems in the world.
