US President Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit today, Dec. 16, against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in a federal court in Miami, seeking damages of at least $5 billion.

Trump accused the BBC of producing what he described as a false, defamatory, misleading, offensive, inflammatory, and malicious documentary against him, aired one week before the 2024 election.

According to the lawsuit, the documentary was produced as part of a blatant attempt to interfere with and influence the outcome of the election in a manner detrimental to President Trump.

The lawsuit alleges that the documentary, titled “Trump: A Second Chance,” was edited to suggest that Trump explicitly urged his supporters to attack the US Capitol during his speech outside the White House on Jan. 6, 2021.
