Chemanol shuts its paraformaldehyde unit in Jubail after 6 workers were hurt in a fire

Six workers were slightly injured when a limited fire broke on July 11 at Methanol Chemical Cos (Chemanol) paraformaldehyde unit in Jubail Industrial City. Chemanol shut down the unit until investigations into the cause of the fire are completed, the company said in a statement to the Saudi bourse, Tadawul.

The fire was brought under control but the financial impact of the incident and the insurance coverage will be determined in a month, it added.

The annual capacity of the plant is about 8,250 metric tons of the companys total capacity of 912,000 tons. The unit, which started commercial operation in 1989, is part of the companys old complex which has recently undergone a safety assessment test under which safety measures were taken to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
