A consortium led by ACWA Power of Saudi Arabia and SolarReserve of the United States has been awarded a contract to develop the $1.2 billion Redstone project in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.
The project will generate solar power with a capacity of 100 MW to provide approximately 210,00 homes with a stable supply of energy through the use of central tower technology.
“The project will have a significant positive socio-economic development impact on the surrounding community and the country as a whole,” ACWA said in a press release on Sunday. “During the peak of construction and the operating phases of the project, approximately 800 and 70 jobs respectively are expected to be created.”
