Saudi banks credit portfolio up 12 percent in 2014

The combined credit portfolioAlso of Saudi Arabia’s listed banks rose 12 percent to SAR 1,265.6 billion by the end of last year, compared to the same period in 2013, according to data compiled by Argaam.

Non-performing loans (NPLs) in 2014 declined 7 percent to SAR 14.4 billion, while the coverage ratio improved from 157 percent to 183 percent.

Coverage ratio

 

NPLs of most banks fell last year. The biggest drop was posted by Saudi Fransi Bank, with a 22 percent decline, followed by SAMBA Financial Group and Riyad Bank.

The NPLs of four banks increased, led by Alinma Bank and Saudi Hollandi.

The NPLs ratio to total banks credit portfolio declined to 1.14 percent compared to 1.38 percent in 2013.

Al-Bilad, SAMBA, and SABB reported the highest NPLs ratios at 1.52 percent, 1.34 percent, and 1.30 percent respectively.

Saudi banks accelerated their NPLs coverage ratio above 160 percent.
