Saudi Arabia’s labor ministry said it has launched the eighth phase of the wage protection program on Saturday, which will cover an additional 2,464 private sector firms and 364,000 employees.
The latest measures will apply to companies which employ more than 130 workers.
The program’s objective is to protect the rights of workers across industries and reduce the number of disputes between employers and staff, said Abdullah Abuthnain, the ministry’s undersecretary.
The program, which was first introduced in August 2013, applies to private sector firms and also aims to improve transparency on wages in the kingdom, according to reports published by Argaam.
The scheme’s sixth phase was implemented in April for firms that employ 240 workers, followed by the seventh phase on June 1 which applied to firms with 170 employees.
