Al Safwa Cement Company (ASCC), an affiliate of France’s Lafarge, has decided to launch a new production line to boost capacity by 100 percent to 4.2 million tons per year, the company’s board chairman Mazen Ahmed Khayyat, was quoted as saying in Al Madina newspaper.

The new line is set to start by fourth quarter 2016, and will increase the daily production capacity to 10,000 tons per day. Soaring demand on housing units has led the company to up its production, Khayat added.

ASCC currently operates at a capacity of two million tons, while producing various types of cement products. The company’s headquarters are in Al Tahalia, Jeddah, with its plant located in northern Jeddah.

In February 2012, Saudi Arabia's Public Pension Authority (PPA) and the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) invested in the company.
