Eastern Petrochemical Co. (SHARQ) will shut down its Jubail-based No. 1 monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant in early December for maintenance, Platts reported, citing an unnamed source with knowledge of the matter.

The facility, which has a production capacity of 450,000 metric tons (mt) per year, will remain offline for a 20-day period.

Operations are said to be running normally in the company’s other MEG units, namely,  its No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 plants, which have a production capacity of 450,000, 500,000 and 700,000 mt/year, respectively.

SHARQ is a 50-50 joint venture between Japan's SPDC and Saudi Basic industries Corp. (SABIC).
