Almarai Co., the Gulf’s largest dairy and juice producer, has expressed interest in acquiring a $1.5 billion controlling stake in National Food Products Co. (NFPC) in the United Arab Emirates.

NFPC has already offered the stake for sale and invited Almarai to proceed with the due diligence process.

NFPC’s markets brands including Milco, Lancnor, and Oasis bottled water. It also has a joint venture with Danish dairy company, Arla Foods.

Last December, Almarai was among several firms that had shown initial interest in bidding for a majority stake in NFPC. The bidders were scheduled to register their interest to buy the stake in January.
