Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co. (Petro Rabigh) on Thursday awarded a contract worth SAR 563 million for the clean fuel project and sulfur recovery unit (SRU) to Kinetics Technology SPA (KT), a subsidiary of Italy’s Tecnimont.

The project is expected to be completed in Q3-2019, the company said in a statement to Tadawul.

The SRU, which will have annual capacity of 106,000 tons, is an environmental requirement for the Rabigh II project.

Meanwhile, the naphtha-treating unit, with capacity of 17,000 barrels per day, is part of the company’s plan to produce clean fuel in 2019. The facility will be financed through its direct resources.

The company added that the establishment of a polyether polyols plant with annual capacity of 220,000 tons is still under discussion.

In October 2015, the company issued tenders for building a polyether polyol facility, as well as naphtha processing and sulfur recovery units.
