Online job postings in Saudi Arabia fell 15 percent year-on-year (YoY) in July 2016, with the oil and gas sector posting the highest growth in hiring activity (46 percent), according to the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI).
The kingdom’s consumer goods/FMCG and IT/telecom sectors followed with YoY growth of 13 percent and 6 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the hospitality sector saw the biggest drop in online recruitment activity, recording a YoY plunge of 66 percent in July.
Across the region, vacancies in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also declined, dropping 22 percent and 25 percent, respectively.
Other GCC countries, however, saw an increase in online hiring, with Bahrain leading the way with a 11 percent rise in job vacancies, followed by 10 percent growth in both Kuwait and Oman.
Egypt, on the other hand, saw the steepest decline, with recruitment activity plunging 34 percent.
The Monster Employment Index is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity in the Middle East, based on a review of vacancies posted on various career web sites and online job listings.
