Haramain Rail set to start services in early 2018

Saudi Arabia’s Haramain high-speed rail project will begin operations in early 2018, Al-Madinah newspaper has reported, citing Rumaih Al Rumaih, chief executive of the Saudi Railway Co. (SAR).

Construction of the new railway will be completed by the end of this year, Al Rumaih said, adding that the Rabigh-Al-Madinah line is being currently tested.

“The project is going on as scheduled without any delays or hindrances,” Al Rumaih added.

Bassam Ghulman, the Haramain project manager, had earlier pushed back trial operations to December 2017 from mid-2017, Argaam earlier reported.

The new 450 kilometer-long train will connect Makkah and Madinah and can carry 9,000 passengers per hour.
