Cost of installing solar cells depends on size, components: SEC

17/09/2017 Argaam Special

The cost of installing small photovoltaic (PV) solar systems varies depending on the size, components, and production quality of the solar cells, Saudi Electricity Co.’s (SEC) Deputy Executive Vice President - Distribution and Customer Service, Khalid bin Hamad, told Argaam.

Some users may add power storage units to their solar cells, which would increase the cost of the system, he said.

Supply and demand is another factor affecting the cost, he added.

SEC today opened online applications for PV solar systems through its website for both homes and organizations.

The company will install bi-directional digital energy meters, which will record the energy produced by solar systems and sent to the public network, as well as the power imported from the public network.

The figures will be included in the monthly electricity bills, and users will pay the net amount due, he explained.

A team of SEC experts and specialists are currently working on preparing all the procedures and technical requirements needed to launch the project according to the latest solar technologies, in order to ensure high reliability, he added.
